We all often like to spend our holidays by the beach. However, if you are planning an Ayurvedic treatment program, we strongly recommend avoiding providers located by the sea. The reasons are very simple: Ayurveda is an ancient healing system based on natural, plant-based substances. Salt in the air, in the soil, and on your skin can damage Ayurvedic medicine and precious oils, reducing their effectiveness. In a place where salt is present in the air, the water, and on the skin, these active ingredients cannot fully develop their healing power, and the effects of the treatment are significantly reduced.
Unfortunately, “Ayurveda” is not a protected term in Sri Lanka. This means any hotel can advertise “Ayurveda,” but in many cases it is nothing more than wellness massage. That has little to do with the ancient healing tradition itself. So if you want a real Ayurvedic treatment program, please make sure you choose a licensed clinic. This is the only true sign of quality.
In addition, the beaches are crowded with tourists, and, as is common in many parts of Asia, there are often many stray dogs as well. This is not the right atmosphere for an Ayurvedic treatment program, where rest, recovery, and peace of mind are essential.
If you are travelling for an Ayurvedic treatment program, it is far better to choose a real Ayurveda clinic inland and avoid these issues. There, you benefit from oxygen-rich tropical air from the rainforest, ideal temperatures, plenty of space, and—especially with us in our enclosed healing park—no tourists and no stray dogs.
If you have any questions about this, we will be happy to advise you.
